Non-Citizen Charged with 13 Counts Absentee Voter Fraud
22-year-old non-citizen Abdihakim Amin Essa of Minneapolis has been charged with 13 counts of felony voter fraud occurring ahead of the 2018 elections. He was alleged to falsify at least 13 absentee ballots on behalf of other people and himself. Essa claims to be employed by a candidate’s campaign committee, but Hennepin County prosecutors have so-far declined to reveal the name of the candidate.
Some online commentators have speculated without evidence that Essa is connected to Representative Ilhan Omar’s campaign.
This story has gone under-reported in Twin Cities press. Remarkably, Minnesota Public Radio appears to be the first outlet to break the story. See their coverage, here.
